In Minneapolis

by Diane Duane

So here we are in Minneapolis, after spending a few days in New York, visiting various friends there, and rediscovering, big time, what air conditioning is for. I had also forgotten about the THI or temperature-humidity index, and had to explain it to Peter. “You don’t have to explain it to me,” he said. “It means we’re in a steam bath.” He was grumbling somewhat. This struck me as odd for Peter, since normally he likes steambaths.

“Yes,” he said, “but those I can get out of.”

He had a point.

Meanwhile, I am increasingly starting to feel that no matter how nice a hotel room is, no matter how many fluffy bathrobes it has in it, what’s really useful is an iron and an ironing board. No matter how much ironing you may have done at the start of a trip, sooner or later you’re going to have to do it all again…
