Yet more rain…

by Diane

Meanwhile, it would be really, really nice if it would stop raining. Unfortunately we seem to be caught in one of those persistent low-pressure areas that just keeps on dumping a steady rain onto the Irish landscape. Peter keeps muttering, “Okay, our county is supposed to be the Garden of Ireland…can somebody please turn the sprinklers off already?”

And this is just the latest spell of rain — there was a lot more, a lot worse, while we were off in the States. As a result, the pastures are getting sodden; and in these waterlogged conditions, the grass isn’t growing properly, so that the country’s going to have a fodder crisis this winter. I keep looking at the weather radar to see if there’s going to be any relief.

So far, for today anyway, it doesn’t look terribly likely… (I’ve also asked Met Eireann why I have to use the UK Met Office’s link to see the local weather radar, when the only reason that the Met Office has that data is because ME sells it to them? This stuff really ought to appear on Met Eireann’s own web page. …They replied that their web page wasn’t final yet, and they were still looking at what else to put on it.)
