Yet another software / hardware upgrade

by Diane

The upgrade got put off until today. Yesterday afternoon was so gorgeous — sunny and warm — that we walked down to the pub and spent the evening gossiping with the neighbors. And it’s sunny and warm again this morning. Which is strange, because it’s the August Bank Holiday weekend here, and traditionally it rains on the Bank Holiday. Maybe this is just payback for all the other rain we’ve been having. Or maybe Met Eireann just slipped somehow. (ironic look)

Anyway, today the upgrade gets done, as soon as Norton finishes running Speed Disk on the big hard drive. I’m going to give XP a chance to install as an upgrade, since it would save me a lot of trouble. But if it refuses (it refused a couple of months ago, when I first tried this) then I’ll do a “naked” install to the presently empty 16-gig “D” drive, swapping the 30-gig drive out of the “boot” position. After that I’ll re-install the crucial things, like Word, and let the business of migrating in all the lesser utilities and programs slide until there’s more time to deal with them.

(sigh) Another exciting day of machine geekery.
