Machine grief

by Diane

Depressed…I’m depressed. Ryoh-Ohki has gone in for service.

A sad, sinking feeling, to hand the inseparable companion of nearly a year over to FedEx, no matter how much insurance has gone on the box. This morning she just wouldn’t boot, no matter how many times I tried. I think her PCI bus may be shot: I’ve been getting a lot of device-conflict errors, and the video card has been acting up. (sigh) So off she goes, back to the guys at Dynamism, who will see her right. But I’ll miss her for however long this takes! — at least a couple of weeks, probably the guts of a month.

Meanwhile I’m carrying Ken-Ohki, her mate, for Peter, and will hand him off to his new master on Monday when I get back to Europe at last. Ken-Ohki is a bigger machine, thicker, more robust. Okay, more masculine. But Ryoh-Ohki is sexier, and I miss her already. Wahhhhhh!!!

Geez, I’m such a weenie. And a Geek Weenie at that. I think I’ll stick Ken- in the safe and go shopping. Ken- has a DVD drive: I should buy something to watch on the plane home. Monsters Inc. seems like a good bet.
