Thinking about Long Island

by Diane Duane

Thinking about it quite hard. All of you who’re in the NY area at the moment… please be safe. Storms of this intensity that have hit the Island in the past have changed its terrain. (See this sequence of images for details and this description of the 1938 storm.)

Don’t play around with this one. If you’re on low ground, get out of harm’s way.

(And people further down the coast, don’t think I’m not thinking about you too. Do what you need to do to be safe from this. …But I could hardly be blamed for thinking first about the place where I grew up and lived through a couple of hurricanes of my own…. a place that, after all. is just a big heap of sand and rubble that a glacier dumped and then went off to do other things.)

(The storm track map above isn’t live: please click on it to go to the live one.) Or use this link.)

I really want to read the next Omnitopia book (East Wind) but Amazon kindle has the release for year 2025 ?????  The hardback says it’s been out since aug 2 2011, but none of the local bookstores carry it 🙁  so kinda un happy no book to read right now (well there are other books, i just wanted to read THIS book at the moment) – so anyway to fix the amazon page?  I would love to download and start reading but not if I have to spend money and wait 17 YEARS to get my copy, 😛

Definitely agree with Mooncatx.  I re-read the first one near the end of July and got super excited when I found out the sequel was coming out Aug. 2!  As far as I can tell there’s been some sort of delay, but I’ve been unable to find anyone who knows more than that.  The page at http://www.dianeduane.com/omnitopia used to say the sequel’s coming out in August 2011 but now it just says “Coming from DAW books”.

It’d be really nice if we knew what’s happening and when we can expect the book 🙂

Sorry for hijacking the comments with something off-topic, and sorry for whining about this — I really do love DD’s books, especially Omnitopia!

What I was told by my brick-and-mortar store was ‘delayed indefinitely’. Which is apparently all they know; it’s something at the publishers, apparently.

[…] DD posted this a day or two back. Here's hoping it's not as bad as is being predicted… — Rick. Reply […]

I’m hearing windy and raining in New England, and they expect trees to come down. Some flooding in new Nork and New jersey, and power outages, but probably nothing bad – this time.
