A Gentleman of Zurich

by Diane Duane

Caught on the way home from Basler Fasnacht, 2005:

A gentleman of Zürich sits at the back bar in Brasserie Federal, halfway down a Calanda Bier and watching the football…

(The camera Peter used to take the pic, balanced on a beer glass, was stolen the following year. But it took lovely images — it had Zeiss glass — and this one was transferred to my laptop while we were still in the Brasserie, waiting for our own train to somewhere or other. I immediately started playing with it in Corel PhotoPaint with the Buzz plugin, aware that if Gandalf the Grey stopped in somewhere for a beer, he might look very much like this…)

He certainly looks like he stepped out of another century – 15th or 16th, at a guess.
